Original research · official page text checked 16 October 2026

When official Royal Navy recruitment pages appear to disagree.

We examined different pages on the same official Royal Navy careers website. Three pairs describe a fitness test or Royal Marines CPC duration differently. These are documented webpage wording differences—not proof candidates were tested incorrectly or official schedules are wrong.

Official source pair 1 · Royal Navy pre-joining fitness test (PJFT) format

Dated bleep-test change versus a CPC page still describing 2.4km

Source A: Dedicated official Royal Navy PJFT page

Explicitly says from 1 October 2026 general RN candidates move from a 2.4km run to the 20m MSFT bleep test minimum 6.6; divers have a different higher requirement.

Source B: Official Royal Navy CPC information

Continues to describe completing a 2.4km run during the CPC fitness assessment.

Inspect original page B ↗

Limit of this finding: Two official webpages have differing text; the detailed, dated PJFT page makes a later test-rule claim. This does not establish actual assessment used in each role.

Candidate question for their recruiter: For my specific Royal Navy role and after-1-October CPC date, do I take the MSFT or the 2.4km run?

Observation: 16 October 2026; editorial classification: accessible source wording mismatch, not a confirmed operational mistake.

Official source pair 2 · Royal Navy individual role recruitment pages

Dated general PJFT update versus an apprenticeship role journey still saying treadmill

Source A: Official Royal Navy general PJFT

Sets out the October 2026 switch to the MSFT for RN candidates, with role-specific exceptions.

Inspect original page A ↗

Source B: Accelerated Apprentice CIS joining journey

Still includes a step describing a 2.4km treadmill fitness test at a nearby centre.

Inspect original page B ↗

Limit of this finding: A role listing may not have been updated, or a particular role/stage may differ. A candidate should confirm the actual invitation rather than extrapolate.

Candidate question for their recruiter: For my Accelerated Apprentice CIS route, which fitness test applies to my scheduled assessment?

Observation: 16 October 2026; editorial classification: accessible source wording mismatch, not a confirmed operational mistake.

Official source pair 3 · Royal Marines Candidate Preparation Course length

Dedicated CPC page says five days; joining overview says four

Source A: Dedicated Royal Marines CPC page

Describes the Candidate Preparation Course as a five-day course including fitness and swimming.

Inspect original page A ↗

Source B: Royal Marines official joining overview

Describes Royal Marines CPC as a four-day induction during the joining process.

Inspect original page B ↗

Limit of this finding: Different day-count conventions or publication versions may explain the wording. The webpages alone do not confirm an individual candidate's travel dates.

Candidate question for their recruiter: What are the actual reporting and departure dates on my Royal Marines CPC booking?

Observation: 16 October 2026; editorial classification: accessible source wording mismatch, not a confirmed operational mistake.

Journalist citation and confirmation method

An accurate report can say: “Independent Project Selection research compared Royal Navy official recruitment webpages on 16 October 2026 and found that their accessible text described different PJFT formats or Royal Marines CPC lengths.” Link both original pages and include the observation date. Do not report real candidates being failed or misdirected without separate first-hand evidence.

Website language, page editions, role-specific requirements and training dates may change. Candidates should seek current personal written instructions from their Armed Forces recruiter; this independent site cannot certify their medical or selection eligibility.

We do not continuously monitor these pages or hold military applicant records. See source methodology and submit documented corrections.
