How to prepare for the RAF Defence Aptitude Assessment
Start by confirming that the DAA applies to the RAF role you intend to pursue. A separate Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT) can apply to some officer or aircrew roles, but CBAT and DAA should not be treated as interchangeable examinations. Follow your individual recruitment instructions rather than a general Internet timetable.
Six skills—not one generic score
Verbal reasoning concerns information in words; numerical reasoning covers everyday arithmetic and number relationships; work rate is about accuracy under repeated tasks; spatial reasoning concerns shapes and orientation; electrical and mechanical comprehension cover basic principles. This page lets you practise these independently, but it does not pretend a 12-question independent quiz is psychometrically equivalent to a real RAF assessment.
What each answer explanation is for
After selecting an answer, read why the correct option works. When you make a mistake, try to identify whether you misunderstood the instruction, miscalculated or rushed. A short targeted practice session can be more useful than repeating guessed answers just to improve a practice percentage.
Where official timings belong
The RAF's current familiarisation includes timed sections and a broader range of questions. This tool deliberately uses an elapsed counter rather than making you fail when an arbitrary timer expires. For official section timings and authorised test examples, open the RAF's free online familiarisation.
What we don't claim
We cannot infer the RAF role for which you qualify, translate our result into a DAA score, reproduce protected assessment items or guarantee entry. These examples are written for independent learning. They are not delivered by or affiliated with the RAF.
