Official information takes precedence. This is an independent explanatory guide, not military recruitment advice, medical clearance or a guarantee of success. Follow the source for your actual role and selection stage.

Understand the stages before checking a score

The Pre-Joining Fitness Assessment and Candidate Preparation Course are distinct parts of the joining journey. Completing them is not the same as completing the full Royal Marines Commando training course. A single bleep-test level on a forum may refer to an entirely different route or assessment.

Confirm the intended role, your current stage and current joining instructions directly with the Royal Navy/Royal Marines recruitment service. Third-party social posts are not authoritative.

An unresolved four-day versus five-day official-page discrepancy

At the time of review, the main official Royal Marines joining-process page described the Candidate Preparation Course as four days, while a dedicated official CPC page described it as five days. Both are official-looking sources, so it would be wrong for an independent site to decide which one controls a particular candidate's booking.

Ask the recruiting or careers team for your actual arrival and departure dates. Avoid booking travel or accommodation solely based on a generalized summary.

Match the assessment stage to each fitness requirement

The publicly described joining journey includes different physical and other components at different times. A stage-specific run or shuttle reference does not replace the full list of applicable checks, nor do serving personnel standards automatically become civilian entry standards.

Use official sources for any required shuttle levels, swimming-related instructions, movement technique and medical or eligibility requirements. Avoid assuming one numerical comparison constitutes an overall pass.

Prepare sustainably and minimise avoidable mistakes

Keep a dated note of your official source, invitation, location, documents, travel plan and unresolved logistical questions. For training, use the official free preparation materials and qualified advice if your individual fitness, history or safety situation requires it.

Persistent pain or unexplained symptoms need professional attention rather than pressure to keep repeating maximal tests. Extreme copied military workouts are not a substitute for a suitable preparation process.

How to evaluate external support

A genuinely useful provider will state the actual assessment stages supported, instructor identity, relevant qualifications, insurance, what is delivered and current pricing and refund terms. It should not imply an official Royal Marines endorsement or a guaranteed pass.

Our free bleep and running calculators teach notation and arithmetic, not physical training prescriptions, and cannot replace current official recruitment instructions.
