Make sure you are preparing for the right assessment
The RAF Defence Aptitude Assessment covers a series of publicly described aptitude areas, including work-rate reasoning. The RAF provides official familiarisation material. CBAT is a separate assessment and cannot be treated as the same test merely because both are described as RAF aptitude.
Start with your role's official assessment instructions. General practice in time, output and numerical reasoning may help confidence, but it does not make independent questions equivalent to the DAA's format or scoring.
The work-rate equation to remember
With constant and independent output, the total produced equals number of workers multiplied by rate per worker multiplied by time. If three people each check four forms per hour for two hours, the group completes 24 forms. That result assumes they all work for the entire period and do not depend on each other's tasks.
For a fixed amount of work, higher capacity generally means less time. Don't reverse this relationship. Equally, several people working at once do not add their elapsed clock times together when computing when the work finishes.
Check units, assumptions and rounding
Write down whether the question asks for items per hour, hours per item or total items. Convert minutes to hours before multiplying an hourly rate. A rate of eight units per hour for 30 minutes yields four units, not 240 or 16.
Some problems require whole numbers of staff or trips; round only when the wording requires it. A four-person team might finish a task sooner than a two-person team in a simplified example, but real work includes coordination and other constraints.
How to structure independent practice
Try a short mixed RAF round, read explanations and note which general topic produces repeated errors. Then select that topic and generate a fresh round with new numerical values. Our practice tool includes work-rate, verbal, spatial, electrical, mechanical and numerical exercises.
The percentage shown after practice is simply the fraction of original questions answered correctly. It cannot be translated into an RAF aptitude grade, trade eligibility or likelihood of selection. For definitive test preparation and administrative questions, use the RAF's own materials.
Try a relevant calculator or general practice exercise when it helps clarify this topic. No account, payment or official recruitment score is involved.
