Official information takes precedence. This is an independent explanatory guide, not military recruitment advice, medical clearance or a guarantee of success. Follow the source for your actual role and selection stage.

Start with your individual route

RAF fitness entry standards and the assessment process can depend on age and route. The official RAF recruitment website publishes the current procedures and training advice.

Not all RAF applicants are tested in the same way under every circumstance. Confirm the required assessment with your recruitment team before interpreting an online score.

Physical preparation without the myths

Use the RAF's published resources to understand the test environment. For aerobics, develop repeatable running and general fitness capacity gradually. Avoid a last-minute cycle of repeated maximal tests.

Where an independent tool can help

A tool can clarify units, dates and publicly sourced targets. Until the correct age- and role-dependent values have been verified and reviewed, we will not produce a numeric readiness comparison for the RAF.

Why a single RAF fitness score is not enough

RAF recruitment requirements depend on the role and assessment stage. Physical fitness is one component of a wider process that can include medical, aptitude and suitability checks. Tables from old videos or forums may refer to a different version of the test or a different route.

Use the RAF recruitment service to confirm what your particular application requires before planning against any published number. Where official requirements aren't consistent across publicly visible pages, this website avoids inventing a consolidated pass standard.

Separate DAA, CBAT and fitness

The RAF's Defence Aptitude Assessment tests subjects including verbal, numerical and mechanical reasoning. Certain officer or aircrew roles can also require Computer Based Aptitude Tests at RAF College Cranwell. Neither the DAA nor CBAT is a physical fitness test, and preparation for one does not establish readiness for the others.

If you are applying to a role where these assessments feature, follow that role's current recruitment timeline. The official site provides familiarisation resources for the DAA; independent practice should supplement rather than replace those.

How to make a useful fitness preparation decision

Confirm the exact test expected for your selected RAF trade, the location and stage at which it will be run, and whether the official instructions specify technique or equipment. Record your current general conditioning and exercise experience, and consult a qualified coach or clinician where appropriate.

The lack of a verified universal RAF benchmark in our comparison tool is intentional. Supplying an apparently precise score when the role context is unknown would create false confidence, not better preparation.
